Hens party guide
Hens night ideas at home in Perth
Having the hens at home saves on venue costs and means nobody has to move the group around town. These ideas work for a house or a backyard. I run cocktail classes, so that's the first one, and the rest don't involve me at all.
1. Book an activity everyone can do
Pick one activity to anchor the day, because it gives the group something to do when they first arrive. A cocktail class is my choice, for obvious reasons. Some pottery and craft teachers in Perth will also come to you.
Whatever you choose, check that it works for anyone who isn't drinking, is pregnant or can't stand for long.
2. Run a "how well do you know the bride" quiz
Ask the groom or partner 15 questions about the bride before the day, and film the answers if you can. Then get the guests to guess. It takes very little work, and it gets people laughing early.
3. Set up a grazing table
A grazing table means people can eat when they like, and you don't have to serve anything. Do it yourself or order one from a local caterer. Put it out after your main activity, when everyone is ready for food.
4. Collect advice and memories before the day
Ask each guest to send a photo with the bride and one piece of marriage advice. Put them in a book or read them out. The bride gets something she can keep, and shy guests get a way to take part.
5. Use your backyard
Perth weather makes outdoor hens parties easy for much of the year. A marquee or shade sail, some chairs and a playlist can be enough. Have a plan for the heat in summer, and move the start time later if you need to.
Planning tips
- Tell guests the cost per person when you invite them
- Ask about dietary needs and who isn't drinking
- Organise lifts, rideshare or somewhere to stay
- Lock in your date and activity before you send invitations
- Keep the plan simple enough that you can enjoy it too
